A referee for food labels.
True Label Project is a consumer trust initiative started in Nagpur. We help families read past the marketing on food packs and buy on proof.
Why we started
Walk into any shop and the front of a food packet shouts words like "high protein", "natural" and "no added sugar". The truth sits on the back in small print, in grams and long ingredient names. Most people never read it, and many cannot make sense of it.
There is no simple, trusted sign in India that tells a shopper "this label is honest". We want to build one, slowly and carefully, starting with free label decoding that anyone can check.
Built for people who shop, and brands that tell the truth.
Families
Clear answers on everyday food: is this product what the front says it is?
Parents
Plain facts on kids' food: sugar, colours, and "health" drinks.
Honest brands
A fair way to prove their label is true, through independent tests and a badge shoppers trust.
The referee does not own a team.
Our founders also run a food business. We say this openly. To keep the referee fair, True Label Project will never test, review or certify any product made by its founders, and our testing rules are published for anyone to read.
As we grow, an outside advisory panel of a doctor, a food scientist and a consumer voice will review our standards.
Questions people ask us.
Do you test products in a lab?
Not yet. Today we decode what brands print on their own labels, which needs no lab. Lab testing starts with our certification programme.
Are you against any brand?
No. We check claims, not companies. When a product is honest, we say so.
Do brands pay you for videos?
No. We do not accept paid videos or sponsorships about any food brand.
Your founders run a food brand. Is that a conflict?
It could be, so we keep a firm rule: True Label Project never reviews, tests or certifies products made by its founders, and we publish our testing rules.
Can I ask you to decode a product?
Yes. Join the community and send a clear photo of the front and back of the pack.
How will True Label Project pay for itself?
We are still deciding and will publish the model before certification opens. Whatever we choose must keep the badge independent.
Read the back. Buy on proof.
One decoded label every week, and a vote on what we check next.
